A Foggy Crazy Horse Marathon

Again, this year the BHCFE volunteers showed up one early morning to help at the Crazy Horse Marathon.  This event is always one of the coldest ones we do.  Unfortunately, the Crazy Horse Monument was hidden behind a deep layer of fog disappointing many of the marathon runners who were there for the first time. Thirty-three states were represented, along with four foreign countries.  Our job is not hard.  We serve bagels, oranges, bananas and M&Ms to the runners before the race begins.  Guess what runs out first!  Once the race starts the runners pass by our booth one more time.  This is such a rush for all of us.  We hold out cups of water and Gatorade calling out what we have in those cups. The rest of the support team is working hard keeping cups filled.  If you ever want to come out and join us at this event or the Deadwood Marathon in the spring please call the Center number, 605-348-3244 or check out our volunteer page on Facebook – Black Hills Center for Equality Volunteers. We do have fun!
