On Tuesday June 21st BHCFE had the pleasure of hosting a book signing event for nationally known photographer and author Barbara Proud. Barbara did a presentation on her latest book First Comes Love a series of stories about LGBT couples from across the U.S. A book on this subject was new form of art for Barbara. She explained why she chose to write a book about this topic, her artistic process, finding the couples she featured in her book, and how important it is to changing the hearts and minds of individuals who don’t know someone who is LGBT. Barbara’s wife who she has been in a relationship with for 20 years was also an inspiration for her book. Edie Windsor wrote the forward for this book and Barbara shared how she was able to get connected to Edie a nationally renowned LGBT equal rights activist. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and light snacks provided by board president Nancy Rosenbrahn and her wife Jennie Rosenbrahn. It was a wonderful evening and Barbara’s presentation on her book was enjoyed by all attendees.
At the Black Hills Pride festival there will be raffle drawings throughout the day. Several lucky Black Hills Pride attendees will win one of three copies of Barbara Proud’s book First Comes Love. Come show your pride at the Black Hills Pride festival and sign-up throughout the day for the hourly raffle prize drawings.
