Bill Russell will be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. Honors Ceremonies will be in Chamberlain September 9th and 10th.
Bill Russell A Tony Award-nominated playwright, lyricist and director Bill Russell’s musicals have been performed on- and off-Broadway as well as internationally.
He wrote lyrics for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and the official theme for the Gay Games. He has received honorary degrees from Morningside College and the Boston Conservatory.
This summer, Russell will direct the Black Hills Playhouse presentation of “Pageant,” which he co-authored. He also continues a tradition of hosting benefit concerts in his hometown and lending his writing talents to various charity events.
“My South Dakota roots are very much in my bones and reflected in my work,” Russell said. “I’m thrilled and so honored to be included.”
Bill Russell returns to the Matthews Opera House for two concerts to benefit The Matthews Opera House and Art Center’s Capital Fund at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 30 and Sunday, July 3, also at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 adults, $10 youth (18 and under).
