BHCFE Seeks New Board Members

Black Hills Center for Equality (BHCFE) Supporters,

The BHCFE board of directors invites you to consider joining our board of directors. Now more than ever, the LGBTQ+ community of Western South Dakota needs support and resource services. BHCFE’s vision for the future is seeing equality for all individuals regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. If you would like to help us with that vision, we would love to consider you for a position on our board of directors.

A few projects we are currently working on are transgender support services,  youth support services, a photo exhibit Out West: photos from the gay rodeo, planning the annual Black Hills Pride festival, strategic planning, and increasing our LGTBTQ+ friendly business directory.

Board Member Qualifications / Terms:

Individuals from a diverse mix of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Some of our board members identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community but we do have allies on the board of directors. Each of our current board members bring a different unique set of background, skills, and experience to the table.  We all work together to ensure we are filling BHCFE’s mission.  Board members are elected to a two-year term. Board members are traditionally elected at our annual membership meeting. The 2017 general membership meeting will be held Friday, October 13th at 7 p.m. at the Dahl Fine Arts Center.

How to Apply:

All individuals interested in joining the board of directors will need to fill out a board of directors application which can be found If you are interested in joining the board of directors, I would encourage you to sit in on the next board meeting. When I joined the board back in 2015, I personally found it helpful to attend a meeting before joining the board. Our next board meeting is Friday, September 8th at 7 p.m. at the Dahl Fine Arts Center.

If you would like to speak to a current board member about what it’s like to be a BHCFE board member, you can find a list of current board members and their contact email at
