The Black Hills Center for Equality Inc. advocates for the queer rights in South Dakota. We are engaged in variety of issues. We work with local schools to combat bullying. We lent support to the couples who brought a federal lawsuit to sue the State of South Dakota for marriage equality. We raise awareness by hosting events like the Black Hills Pride Festival and the Dakotas’ Equality Summit.
Perhaps our most important project is the story-telling project. We offer events to equip South Dakotan’s to tell their stories of being queer or allies. Only by telling our stories, and engaging people in meaningful conversation can we change the general perception of LGBT people in South Dakota. Only by changing the hearts and minds can we bring true equality to South Dakota. If you are interested in holding our storytelling training events to your town let us know by contacting us today.
